Soy wax, derived from the processing of soybeans, is proving to be a sensible, healthy and ecological alternative to traditional paraffin waxes.
Paraffin is a petroleum by-product. Petroleum is a "fossil fuel" and is used in gasoline, diesel fuel, kerosene, and many other products. When petroleum burns, many chemicals are released. Several of these chemicals have been classified as toxins and carcinogens.
Paraffin wax may also be manufactured from foreign oil.
In addition to the unwanted chemicals, the soot and smoke produced by paraffin-based candles stains walls, ceilings, carpets and furniture.
